Webinar ini merupakan webinar kali kedua saya bersama Fakulti Sains & Teknologi Maklumat (FTSM). Setahun yang lalu, saya dijemput untuk bercakap tentang TIps & Tools for Online Teaching manakala untuk webinar kali ini saya diminta mengupas isu-isu berkaitan kepelbagaian pentaksiran untuk P&P dalam talian. Lalu saya memilih untuk memfokuskan kepada aspek Penilaian Alternatif. Terima kasih Dr Syaimak, Penolong Dekan Pengajaran FTSM di atas jemputan ini. Ianya lebih bersifat perbincangan dan perkongsian, justeru saya merasakan banyak sekali potensi dalam penilaian alternatif yang boleh diterokai bersama dan disesuaikan dengan bidang pengajaran masing-masing. The ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP) is a dedicated youth volunteerism platform that intends to create opportunities in knowledge-driven volunteerism, support the exchange of learning experiences, develop capacity, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and forge a sense of regional identity while making a sustainable difference to communities across ASEAN.
This event was cohosted by the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the University of the Philippines (UP). Focusing on the theme Strengthening ASEAN Education Delivery Systems in Challenging Times, the e-AYVP Philippines 2021 featured seven (7) ASEAN-focused online webinars, six project management workshops, and 22 masterclasses. This three-week programme, which seeks to build up the leadership qualities of the youth in the ASEAN Region, addressed the multi-dimensional challenges confronting the education sector, especially as occasioned by the pandemic—issues that will require solutions transcending time and space, given its global impact. The AYVP similarly attempts, as it hones the skills of future ASEAN leaders, to tap into volunteerism as a mechanism by which the youth may effectively apply their learnings to their own communities. Am truly honoured to be part of this event and shared some insights on Remote Learning together with my two other fellow colleagues - Dr. Syawal and Dr. Khairul Azhar. Jika ingin melahirkan sebarang perubahan yang efektif serta keputusan yang tuntas serta selari dengan keperluan sistem, maka musyawarah tentulah satu kewajipan yang perlu dilazimi di setiap peringkat. Ini bukanlah kali pertama kami mencuri ruang untuk bersemuka bersama Prof TNC Akademik & Antarabangsa kami. Namun agenda pada pertemuan kali ini agak menuntut penaakulan yang komprehensif serta kebitaraan dalam membuat keputusan.
Di UKM, kemasukan pelajar ke program akademik di peringkat prasiswazah, selain melaui saluran UPU, calon-calon juga boleh memohon melalui Saluran UKM-i atau UKM International. Meskipun namanya International, saluran ini juga menerima sekian banyak permohonan daripada pelajar tempatan. Ada sebilangan calon yang memohon merupakan mereka yang tidak mempunyai kelayakan SPM. Hal ini disebabkan beberapa faktor, misalnya keberadaan mereka di luar negara menyebabkan kelompok ini perlu melalui sistem persekolahan luar negara. Mengikut praktis di UKM sebelum ini, calon-calon yang tidak memiliki kelayakan SPM akan diberikan tawaran bersyarat di mana mereka perlu menduduki SPM sekurang-kurangnya untuk subjek Bahasa Melayu dan Sejarah (minimum kelulusan perlu kredit). Namun demikian, MQA sebenarnya telah mengeluarkan senarai Kelayakan Masuk bagi Pelajar Antarabangsa bagi membolehkan Penilaian Kesetaraan Kelayakan Masuk ke Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi di Malaysia dilaksanakan. Justeru, calon-calon yang tidak memiliki kelayakan persekolahan Malaysia boleh diterima untuk memasuki program akademik di universiti di Malaysia dengan syarat sijil persekolahan yang dimilik tersenarai di dalam senarai keluaran MQA tersebut. Maklumat lanjut boleh diperolehi DI SINI. Dengan ertikata lain, mulai sekarang calon-calon yang mempunyai kelayakan persekolahan antarabangsa boleh memohon dan memasuki program di UKM (melalui saluran UKM International). Namun sebagai sebuah universiti watan yang menyanjung Bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa ibunda, satu program Bahasa Melayu telah dikenalpasti sebagai satu kursus wajibyang perlu diduduki oleh calon-calon program UKM-i yang berstatus audit. InshaAllah perkara ini akan mula dilaksanakan menjelang Semester 2 2021/2022. Terima kasih sekalung budi buat Prof TNC di atas perkongsian idea bernas :) Pendigitalan Pendidikan merupakan salah satu agenda penting dalam dunia pendidikan hari ini. Hal ini tentu bersangkut paut dengan wujudnya pelbagai platform serta aplikasi dalam talian yang boleh dan perlu dimanfaatkan dalam dunia pendidikan. Perkembangan dalam dunia digital juga menuntut anjakan yang serius (tapi terancang) dalam setiap aspek reka bentuk, pelaksanaan dan tentunya keberkesanan sesuatu aktiviti pembelajaran.
Fakulti Pendidikan UKM dengan slogannya - Peneraju Inovasi Pendidikan tidak pernah ketinggalan dalam memastikan setiap aktiviti dan tindakan dalam hal-hal pengajaran & pembelajaran selari dan senada dengan perkembangan teknologi masa kini. Syabas dan setinggi-tinggi tahniah buat semua warga dan khususnya buat peneraju fakulti kami - Dato' Prof Dr Norazah yang seringkali sarat dengan idea-idea inovasi dan terkehadapan. Alhamdulillah, I'm proud to be part of the faculty! Once again, pengiktirafan diberikan kepada seluruh warga akademik fakulti yang turut menyumbang kepada bertambahnya bilangan Apple Teachers - saya kira bilangan tertinggi di UKM atau mungkin di seluruh negara. As I am currently in charge of Open & Distance Learning program development, so I decided to share my insights on ODL. As to avoid any technical problem occurrence, the keynote speech will be delivered as a pre-recorded presentation. See you there! Look, they have a beautiful teaser video of us! ^___^ Canva bukanlah sesuatu yang baharu. Saya percaya sudah ramai pengguna mengambil manfaat daripada Canva yang menghidangkan banyak template khususnya untuk menghasilkan bahan-bahan grafik; samada dalam format slaid, poster, kad dan bermacam lagi. Namun barangkali antara kelebihan Canva (versi Pro dan Education) yang tidak ramai yang mengambil berat adalah wujudnya peluang untuk kita menghasilkan pembentangan dalam bentuk video berasaskan slaid yang kita bangunkan di Canva. Oh oh .. khusus buat rakan-rakan pensyarah di UKM serta institusi pendidikan tinggi lain, jangan tak tahu yang kita boleh mendapat akses kepada Canva for Education apabila mencipta akaun menggunakan emel rasmi institusi (@edu)! Dengan akaun Canva for Education ini anda boleh menghasilkan video pengajaran semudah A,B,C! Alhamdulillah baru-baru ini saya berkesempatan berkongsi sedikit info bersama rakan-rakan pakar bidang yang terlibat dengan penghasilan SIM untuk program ODL UKM. Semoga sesi ringkas ini memberi manfaat dan ruang untuk berkarya dengan lebih kreatif dan produktif :) Panduan ringkas telah saya sediakan dalam betuk tutorial seperti di bawah. Hahaha, that is how exciting and relevant an apple can be! I am talking about both - apple as a fruit as well as a gadget anyway :D Never in my mind that I will one day jump into an Apple Teacher's wagon. It is not because I have less interest in using Apple gadgets; no, in fact, I had my second Macbook Pro last year and started using Macbook Air in 2014. I was also blessed with an iPad Pro provided by the faculty to assist my teaching & learning. I think the only reason why I didn't even give myself a chance to explore an opportunity to become an Apple Teacher (AT) was merely because of my ignorance. I thought that choosing not to become one will give no harm to me as an educator. Due to hectic daily activities and tight working schedules, I intentionally put it aside. Anyway, thanks to Dr. Fiza, who contacted me last week, asking whether or not I am interested in becoming AT. Well, her small request made me said YES. And I didn't take long for that. Spending about 2 hours in front of my lappy, I navigated through the page and tried to understand the requirements. It was relatively straightforward to the point. So I took all the quizzes in one go. As a result, I received both AT awards for Mac and iPad :D So, what does it mean to become one? From my point of view - although an AT doesn't make you obliged to conduct any training or sharing sessions, the least you can do is to convey a message of how convenient it is to work in an 'Apple environment'. I am a big fan of Mac, not because it is 'Apple' brand but having used it since 2014, I am pretty confident to conclude that Mac is the best tool everyone should own - it is slim and light, and more importantly, it offers a longer battery life compared to other laptops. Keyboard-wise - it is pretty durable! If your work demands you to create a pile of presentations, try Keynote! iMovie comes with handy features as well. One can compose interesting movies without learning too many technical aspects, as iMovie is pretty much easy to use. As for Macboook Pro - the one that I am using now - I am in love with its sound quality. Imagine listening to Spanish guitar music while working on a journal article on Sunday! It gets me immersed in my 'me time'! I admit that I use Mac a lot more than iPad, and I believe that iPad is not a laptop replacement. But I cannot deny that iPad itself can handle everything that a laptop can do. As in Mac, you can also create slides and movies using Keynote and iMovie on iPad. Ah, not forgotten about Pages. If you don't use Canva as I do, Pages can offer many templates for graphic works. ** There are lot more things you can do with both - I am just highlighting a few significant ones So peeps, do not hesitate to own yourself a Mac if you are looking for a satisfying tool. I am not saying that I do not recommend you to choose iPad over Mac, as it depends on how you plan to use them. If you are a multitasker, a Mac will suit you well. But if you are looking for a handy tool, iPad should be the one. The choice is yours! :) #appleteacher #mac #ipad Alhamdulillah, despite a long and hectic daily schedule, our ODL team and I managed to spare a little time for our first workshop under ODL Essentials for SMEs Series! Creating Learning Materials using Screencasting Technique - We picked up this topic as we are aware that many SMEs need to develop their teaching materials. Screencasting is a simple technique that everybody can apply to create video-based learning materials. If you have presentation slides in your laptop folders, it is time to add some value to them! Using the existing slides, you may enhance the interactivity by adding your explanatory video - and I bet students will appreciate it more! And if you want to show the 'how-to' process, especially when using any tools on your machine, the screencast technique will work wonders! We will continue providing this kind of support to all ODL SMEs. For this first workshop we have about 90 attendees and hoping to have more participants in the future insha-Allah .. It has been a few months back since I talked to Dr. Rosni regarding the invitation. She called me asking for having a session on how to manage research while we are in the midst of a pandemic crisis. Everybody is working from home, thus limiting a face-to-face meeting, which also affected how research data can be collected.
Two simple tools, yet powerful to help researchers focus on their research content and management, are Wakelet and Trello. In this session, I shared my experience using these tools and how they significantly assisted me in getting going on time. Thanks, KUIS, for the invitation! Hopefully, this will benefit all! Synchronous and asynchronous are basic terms when it comes to online or distance learning. When the pandemic struck, teaching and learning activities were shifted online. Whether you like it or not, that is the only option left. But after almost a year of being under this new norm, we should have mastered the arts and science of planning, selecting, conducting, and assessing our online and distance classes. When is it suitable to conduct a synchronous session? What are learning activities and techniques should we use when you have a large group of students in your Google Meet class? How to ensure students' engagement throughout the session? How can you guarantee collaborative learning to take place when students are learning from a distance? These are among the examples of questions that need to be deliberately answered by all of us, educators. My heartfelt thanks to SieQa committee for this invitation. I had fun sharing my little insights on this topic :) A week before the seminar, we had a quick catch up with the organising committee. Dr Ooi briefed us the tentative and how the sessions would be organised.
