Yesterday was our first meeting!
Majority of them are full time, sponsored students. Congratulations for getting the scholarship! We spent a whole three hours discussing on the topics related to basic of research and of course the must have session - ontological and epistemological considerations.
Many of novice researchers may be asking and questioning why is it important to grasp the understanding of research paradigms? Why do we have to learn all these philosophical aspects?
When I was doing my masters, I wasn't as lucky as you are, dear students .. as I have never been taught about these paradigms. All I learned in my Research Methods class was merely under quantitative paradigm. I had very minimal exposure on qualitative research .. let alone critical or pragmatism!
So, having discussed the differences between these paradigms, I do hope that all of you will gain more insights on WHY we need to understand the aspect and thus will help you to choose the right research paradigm and be able to explain the justification behind the decision.
See you again! ^___^
