Synchronous and asynchronous are basic terms when it comes to online or distance learning. When the pandemic struck, teaching and learning activities were shifted online. Whether you like it or not, that is the only option left. But after almost a year of being under this new norm, we should have mastered the arts and science of planning, selecting, conducting, and assessing our online and distance classes. When is it suitable to conduct a synchronous session? What are learning activities and techniques should we use when you have a large group of students in your Google Meet class? How to ensure students' engagement throughout the session? How can you guarantee collaborative learning to take place when students are learning from a distance? These are among the examples of questions that need to be deliberately answered by all of us, educators. My heartfelt thanks to SieQa committee for this invitation. I had fun sharing my little insights on this topic :) A week before the seminar, we had a quick catch up with the organising committee. Dr Ooi briefed us the tentative and how the sessions would be organised.

This year will probably be the most hectic year throughout my life. I am not kidding, just sharing my strong gut. It is not merely due to training, workshops or consultancy with my fellow friends out there but I strongly believe that my current task will be haunting me - I am ready for sleepless nights! Ok will talk about ODL later in the next entry (when I really have a courage to do so!) Alhamdulillah, managed to 'escape' from my routine works to be with fellow friends from the Resource and Educational Technology Department, MOE. Mrs Phua was the one who approached me I think last December 2020. She expressed the needs of the department to explore more about the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) and possible benefits when it is integrated to text books. I couldn't say no to this proposal as AR is always my passion. So I designed the 2-day training into two segments. Thanks Hazrati for willing to be my partner in crime hehehe. We presented two tools for AR - Blippar and Metaverse. Each of the tool serves different purposes. Blippar can be used for more informative kind if materials whereby you can produce a more interactive learning material using Metaverse as it allows you to arrange the cards just like developing an authorware. We had more or less 80-90 participants attended the 2-day training. I think I had a blast during the Q&A session. Thanks for all the questions, suggestions and insights. I wish we could have more time for that but of course the time wouldn't permit. InshaAllah there will always be next time kan! Wishing the BSTP a good way ahead and all the best with the AR-integrated text book project! Musim sebegini memang meruntun jiwa jika terlalu banyak bermenungan tanpa produktiviti! Alhamdulillah, saya berkesempatan untuk bersama-sama 90 lebih pensyarah dari UUM untuk perkongsian tentang konsep Micro Learning. Bengkel ini adalah di bawah penganjuran pihak UTLC UUM. Platform yang digunakan untuk menjayakan sesi ini adalah Webex. Bengkel dijalankan melalui platform Webex - satu platform yang sangat user friendly and effective! Di dalam bengkel ini saya mebincang sedikit sebanyak tentang konsep Micro Learning serta jenis-jenis bahan yang boleh dibangunkan untuk tujuan Micro Learning, di samping tools yang boleh digunapakai untuk menghasilkan bahan. Selari dengan permintaan tuan rumah, saya menampilkan Biteable sebagai salah satu tool dalam talian untuk menghasilkan bahan video yang mudah dan cepat. Terima kasih UTLC UUM di atas jemputan! Empat sekawan. Dan ini idea asal Shahrul Mizan! Ye, kami bersama-sama menjayakan Bengkel Terjah pada 23 Mac yang lalu. Empat orang instructors dengan pelbagai idea dan tips antaranya Screencasting, Mentimeter, Quizizz, serta Flipgrid untuk kegunaan dalam talian. Terima kasih kepada penganjur - Fakulti Undang-undang serta Prof Nazura selaku Dekan yang supportive :) InshaAllah jumpa lagi pada siri lain. Wohoo! I was surprise upon receiving an email from Flipgrid team, congratulating me on the accomplishment of having 50 videos shared on my Flipgrid account. Obtaining the badge was not my major intention, as the main reason why I used Flipgrid was to actually encourage my students and trainees to voice out their reflections. What I noticed most was that, not many of them are really open to express themselves in in front of others in their classrooms. By using Flipgrid instead, they are have time to record their reflection (some of them preferred to do it alone, in their quite room). I know that you guys do not really into writing your thoughts, so sharing your feelings and thoughts via the video would be a better option. Let's do it more often! Thanks Flipgrid! ^____^ Bengkel kali ini agak istimewa kerana pesertanya merupakan 10 pelajar dari negara seberang, Indonesia. Mereka ini pelajar-pelajar terpilih dari daerah Aceh untuk menghadiri kursus pengembangan diri selama sebulan di Malaysia, tepatnya di UPM. Saya dijemput untuk mengendalikan Bengkel Pengembangan Animasi dan Visual Effect. Alhamdulillah, semuanya menunjukkan semangat dan minat yang mendalam untuk meneroka sesuatu yang baharu meskipun kebanyakan mereka sedang mengikut program multimedia dan networking di negara asal. Saya mengucapkan selamat maju jaya buat semua! Sehari setengah berkampung di Kolej Komuniti Selayang untuk Bengkel 21sy Century Learning Designer in Augmented Reality - Flipped Classroom Specialist Designer. Para peserta merupakan para pensyarah Kolej Komuniti yang datang dari pelbagai negeri. Memang terasa keseronokannya apabila berada bersama kumpulan yang begitu peramah serta gemar ketawa ini! Apatah lagi penceramah juga kaki melawak! Satu perkara yang saya perasan adalah aspek di mana para pensyarah masih kurang didedahkan dengan kemahiran dalam pedagogi serta perancangan dalam pdp. Let alone the concept of ID and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Namun alhamdulillah di kesempatan ini kami berkesempatan untuk membincangkan isu-isu berkaitan dan sekali lagi saya menekankan problem-based approach sebelum sesuatu perancangan dilakukan. Kadangkala kesukaran untuk menghasilkan pengalaman pembelajaran yang bermakna berlaku apabila pendidik tidak dapat mengenalpasti 'performance descrepancy' para pelajar. Kegagalan berbuat demikian akan mengakibatkan pembaziran masa dan tenaga apabila bahan yang dibangunkan serta masa yang diluangkan untuk pdp tidak membuahkan hasil yang diharapkan. Duh, masa terlalu suntuk. Malangnya saya tidak berkesempatan untuk berkongsi secara lebih mendalam tentang SoTL dan selok beloknya. InshaAllah jika ada peluang di lain kali kita bersua untuk berkongsi rasa! Terima kasih kepada pihak penganjur for a great hospitality and fabulous food! ^___^ Tidak pernah terfikir untuk terbang ke Mukah. Namun di atas jemputan akhirnya tiba juga saya ke sini. Saya dijemput untuk mengendalikan sebahagian daripada pengisian sempena Bengkel Industry4ward: AR untuk Pegawai Pendidikan Pengajian Tinggi di Politeknik Mukah. Para peserta semuanya bersemangat dan sangat sporting tentunya! Antara hang dibincangkan termasuklah kemahiran Merekabentuk Pengajaran menggunakan model-model ID, pembangunan bahan Augmented Reality untuk Pembelajaran Abad ke 21 serta penghasilan e-portfolio akademik. Saya turut memberikan penekanan terhadap aspek problem-based approach yang sekiranya dilaksanakan secara sistematik pasti akan membuahkan hasil yang positif dan konstruktif terhadap pekembangan dan pembelajaran pelajar. Jutaan terima kasih kepada pihak politeknik di atas jemputan ini, serta tidak lupa sahabat saya PM Dr Shahrul Mizan yang mencetuskan kerjasama yang awesome ini :) Alhamdulillah, I had a great time mingled with fellow lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Technology UKM during our workshop on Active Learning. I know, it was held on 8th August .. weekssss ago! And a usual, this is a late update folks! It was a day workshop and the activities planned were quite heavy in a sense that it really required their participation and engagement. I was initially worried that they would be uninterested or perhaps I couldn't reach their expectation .. but it turned out that everybody was so active and participative! Thanks everyone! I hope that you enjoyed the session as much as I did! :) Aduh aduh aduh .. tanda ketuaan yang nyata barangkali .. memori yang tercipta ini sudah agak lama namun baru hari ini tiba-tiba terkenangkan saat ini lalu sempatlah membuat update entri baharu :) Sekitar Bengkel Micro Learning di UUM Sintok suatu ketika dahulu!!
